Created a (very) small title experiment.

Took the time today to paint my Skull-py creation that I posted a couple of days ago.
The whole process took about a half hour, and in hindsight I probably should have taken a bit longer. I”m not completely dissatisfied with the results, as I feel that for my first time out it’s not bad at all.
But, I do feel like the idea for the “piece” changed greatly at this, the painting, stage.
Initially I had wanted to create something that appeared organic, and dangerous in its potential. As I painted the thing I began to realize how difficult it was to create a kind of living/breathing organic quality – with a piece of Sculpey.
It was when I applied a light coat of blue, that the idea of something ancient or a “relic made of rusty steel, and splattered with blood” became vivid in my mind.
I really like that idea and hope that it comes across clearly. Even if it doesn’t though, I think I’ve got myself a decent little paperweight.
That is, until I make something else.
Finished up work a book I’ve been working on for a day or two. This littler bugger was folded, stitched, and glued by my oafish and clumsy hands (mostly).
I’m really happy with the results. This little sucker is going to be given to my girlfriend for her birthday. It’s blank on the inside and contains a pocket on the inner cover which can be used for loose pieces of paper, receipts, and other miscellaneous junk.
I really owe a big Thank You to a friend who patiently walked me through the entire process – which took hours. Really, really appreciate it, Thanks a bunch, Matt!
